About Ros
Born
in Shillong, Assam shortly after Independence, I'm a graduate in English Language and Literature, with an MA in
Early English and a PhD on Beowulf, a subject which is briefly touched on in Ready, Steady, Dig! and Gnome or
Mr Nice Guy, and which will become more and more significant as the series progresses.
I took early retirement in
2006 after a career in teaching (University College, Cork), theatre (the RSC in Stratford), and medical
administration (Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Medical Committee). During that time I also
managed to fit in ten years' service with 67 (The Queen's Own Warwickshire and Worcestershire Yeomanry) Signal
Squadron (Volunteers) first as a Radio Operator, and latterly as a Troop Officer, where I discovered an
unexpected talent as a marksman with rifle, pistol and sub-machine gun.

I
now live in Cornwall, where I have to position my word processor so that I can't see out of the window,
otherwise I would spend all day watching the sea and never write a thing.

When not writing (or looking at the sea), most of my time is spent gardening, bell-ringing, and helping out at
Guide Camp and on Duke of Edinburgh's Award expeditions.
